OFFICER TRAINEES OF INDIAN ECONOMIC SERVICE 2012 BATCH CALL ON THE PRESIDENT

Rashtrapati Bhavan : 01.05.2013

A group of 29 Officer Trainees of Indian Economic Service 2012 Batch called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today (May 1, 2013) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, the President told the Officer Trainees that they should provide the policy makers with informed analyses, policy options and strategies to meet our social and economic objectives. He advised them to remember that the needs and requirements of our democratic polity are different from that of the developed nations. We cannot follow ‘one size fit all’ approach, he added. He said that we must be open to ideas from all sides: developed, emerging and developing economies but we must never allow them to dominate our thinking. He further said that we must be firmly rooted in our reality. We must take their best and tailor it to suit our needs, he added.

The 34th (2012) Batch of Indian Economic Service Officer Trainees selected through the Indian Economic Service Examination 2011 is presently undergoing training at the Institute of Economic Growth, New Delhi.

Among those present on the occasion were Dr. Arvind Mayaram, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, Chief Economic Adviser.
