The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the new building of Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET) today (August 1, 2014) at Narayanpur, Malda.
Speaking on the occasion, the President stressed on the necessity of employment generation and skill development. Describing Ghani Khan Choudhury as his personal friend and paying rich tributes to him for his untiring developmental work for the people of Malda, North Bengal, West Bengal and adjoining areas, the President said Shri Chowdhury dreamt of such an institution to solve the unemployment problem of Malda, North Bengal, West Bengal and neighbouring Bihar and Jharkhand. GKCIET is a realization of his dream, he underlined. The President said that in the globalized era the mobility of people in search of jobs has gone up. Socio-economically weaker sections of the country can be made more employable through proper training. He wished success for GKCIET to ensure socio-economic development of weaker sections of Malda and adjoining districts.
