GALPANJALI, COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES BY PROF DEBRANJAN MUKHOPADHYAY PRESENTED TO THE PRESIDENT

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukhrjee received a Bengali literary book, Galpanjali, at a function held at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata this evening (May 6, 2013).

Former Governor of West Bengal, Justice (retired) Shri Shyamal Kumar Sen presented the short-story volume, composed by Prof. late Debranjan Mukhopadhyay, to the President after formally releasing it. Shri M K Narayanan, Governor, West Bengal, presided over the event.

Paying rich tribute to Prof. Mukhopadhyay, the President said he studied under him at the Suri Vidyasagar College at the Intermediate and Graduation levels. He said Prof Mukhopadhyay was an excellent scholar of Sanskrit and Bengali and a dedicated teacher. The late Professor had originally planned the book release when the President visited the college in December last year. "He was supposed to be here this evening", the President said.

The President also paid homage to his other college teacher late Prof. Ramaranjan Mukhopadhyay (the younger brother of Late Prof. Debranjan Mukhopadhyay) and recalled the rich contributions of their family in spread of education and building up the Suri Vidyasagar College.

Educationist, Dr. Amal Mukhopadhyay and Vice-Chancellor of Burdwan University, Prof. Smritikumar Sarkar were present on this occasion. Both of them lauded the President's dedication to his late teacher and alma mater. They asked the younger generation to learn from this outstanding example of India's Guru-Shishya traditions.
