The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Kamoda Kinkar Mukhopadhyay Sarani, a street named after his father, a renowned freedom fighter today (October 8, 2016) at Suri. He also inaugurated the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Dishari Club.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that his father, Kamoda Kinkar Mukhopadhyay was amongst the freedom fighters who fought relentlessly to free the country from British despotism. The President said that during the freedom struggle, several renowned patriots followed Gandhiji’s principle of non-violence and there were many others who followed the stream of revolution. There was another stream too which posed organized threat to British imperialism and they were the tribals. Birbhum is one of the districts from where the Santhals rose up to fight the British hegemony.
The President lauded the ‘Clean India’ initiative of the Government of India and said that the entire country and all its villages and cities should be kept clean and pollution-free. Everybody should come forward and work unitedly under this initiative.
On the occasion, of Silver Jubilee celebrations of Dishari Club at Birbhum, West Bengal, the President congratulated the Dishari Club for completing 25 years of its existence. He also handed over the Subhra Mukhopadhyay Shield to the winners of the football tournament organized by Dishari Club.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Member of Parliament, Shri Abhijit Mukherjee, Shri Chandranath Sinha, Minister, Fisheries, Government of West Bengal and Shri Ujjwal Mukherjee, Chairman, Suri Municipality.
