The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee greeted teachers, students and all stakeholders in the education system across the country on the National Education Day, which marks the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Addressing a function organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to celebrate the National Education Day today (November 11, 2012), the President said the outcome of our education system must be measured not merely in the number of degree holders, but in the large numbers of informed citizens that was created - enlightened citizens, who respect humanism and instinctively rise above narrow feelings of hatred, regionalism, violence, divisiveness; and contribute gainfully to a better, stronger and vibrant India.
Among the dignitaries present at the gathering were Dr. MM Pallam Raju, Minister of Human Resource Development, Dr. Karan Singh Representative of India to UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova, Director General, UNESCO, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human Resource Development and Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Human Resource Development.
