The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will present the Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan on 19 November, 2012.

National Service Scheme (NSS), a Centrally Sponsored scheme launched in 1969, is one of the flagship programmes of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The scheme aims at personality development of the youth through community service. NSS has a current enrolment of 32 lakh volunteers.

The Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards were instituted during 1992-93 for outstanding NSS volunteers and functionaries in order to recognize their contribution to community services.
