The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 6th Edition of Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee Rural Football Tournament at Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district today (August 23, 2014).
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that football is a popular game in the country particularly in rural areas. He said it is difficult to find a village without a football ground. Referring to the KKM Rural Football Tournament name after his father freedom fighter Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee, the President said that 240 clubs of Murshidabad district and 16 clubs of adjoining Nalhati in Birbhum district have taken part in this tournament. It shows the popularity of football as a game.
The President witnessed the exhibition match between Eastern Railway Sport Club and Bhawanipur Club. He was introduced to the players of both the teams and he gave away prizes.
Shri Abhijit Mukherjee, MP; Chairman of Allsport Foundation, Shri Srenik Sett and eminent footballers, Shri Satyajit Chatterjee, Shri Alok Mukherjee and Shri Atanu Bhattacharjee were among the others present on the occasion.
